There are many ways you can support Sussex Help's mission. Some of our volunteering opportunities are listed below.

The most effective way to help families who are struggling financially is to make a recurring monthly donation. Even a small monthly donation can make a huge difference.

Volunteer opportunities:

Drivers
- Transport food and other assistance to families in need.
  Volunteers transport food, clothing, diapers, formula, and other household needs from public pantries to homes and to community service organizations that support families in need across Sussex County
- Transport families.
  Parents left behind are often afraid or unable to drive. Volunteers transport them and their children to grocery stores, medical appointments, legal appointments, and any other destinations as needed. Driver volunteers travel in pairs that must include at least one woman, and that ideally include one bilingual volunteer.

Fundraising
- Join the fundraising committee.
  Sussex Help provides as much assistance as possible to keep families in their homes with the lights on. Volunteers are unpaid; all donations go directly to this mission. Every month is a race between donations and growing needs. For every family that reestablishes financial stability, there are often two or three more whose family providers have been detained or deported. Fundraising volunteers work to keep Sussex Help ahead in that monthly race.
- Participate in fundraising events.
  Join volunteers in planning and hosting fundraising events around Sussex County to raise awareness of the problem and to offer an opportunity for others to be part of the solution, an opportunity to prevent homelessness and starvation among our immigrant community.
- Raise community awareness.
  Everybody knows someone who might be able to help. Someone who may want to help but don't know how they can. Tell friends and neighbors. Learn the facts of what's happening in our community, and make those facts known throughout the county. Encourage friends and neighbors to make recurring monthly donations until this community trauma finally ends.

Join a working group.
- Diapers & Formula
  This group sources, stores, and provides diapers and formula for children whose family provider(s) have been detained. Volunteer storage space in your shed or garage. Transport from sources to storage, and from sources/storage to the families who desperately need them. Help keep a running inventory of what's available and what's still needed.
- Clothing Children
  Work with other volunteers to source and provide quality clothing for children of detained parents.
- Trauma Counseling
  If you're an experienced trauma counselor, retired or otherwise, bilingual or otherwise, and would like to help families manage the trauma of losing a parent or other family member, please join this group. The trauma of losing a family member to detention or deportation is incalculable, and it's lifelong. It never goes away. At the very best, it can be survived and managed, and you can help that happen.

Bring ideas. Bring energy. Bring love.
- The need is extensive, and growing. We're only beginning to meet it.
  Whatever your experience and expertise, Sussex Help can use you in some capacity. We've expanded significantly from our initial intention to provide transportation and food. There may be jobs we haven't even thought about yet. Come sit with us and discuss other ways we can help a community that's being traumatized and torn apart by escalating immigration actions. Help us to fight homelessness, starvation, and fear in a community of families who only want to live in peace and safety.
